3-D Art

The transition from encaustic photography to sculpting clay creatures may seem unexpected, but for me, it represents a natural evolution of my artistic expression. In the tactile embrace of clay, I discovered a newfound sense of playfulness and whimsy, a departure from the contemplative stillness of my photographic work. Each clay animal I create is imbued with its own personality and charm, a reflection of the joy and wonder I find in the world around me. I create my animal friends from high-fire clay; bisque fire them; cold finish them and then dress them in vintage doll clothes, fabric, ribbon and lace. I assemble and coat the clothing with hot wax, creating motion and stability to the piece. I've also been known to add wire, string, found objects and antique frames .

Stranger Than Fiction: A Twisted Tale

It is impossible to know the entire story if it is told from just one perspective. Through this series of hand-built ceramic busts, I explore the timeless characters of fairytales, folktales, nursery rhymes, and fables. Each piece reimagines a human character wearing the mask of the animal from their story, creating a shift in point of view. By combining empathy and irony, the series invites the viewer to reconsider familiar narratives through shared identity and intent. Each piece is hand-built from b-mixed clay and low-fired with underglaze. They are then finished with underglaze and sometimes paints and encaustics.

Under the Big Top

A small circus of childhood memories, where little animals perform in and out of the spotlight, and whimsy is the only rule they follow. This is a series of ceramic circus animal performers created with mixed media; including clay, wax, fabric, wire, old boxes, and found objects. These pieces feature finely detailed animals dressed in fabric, dipped in hot wax, balancing on a wire or ball, and sometimes living inside a vintage wooden box, as if caught in a moment of a circus dream. Hand-built from B-mix clay and low-fired with underglaze, they embody a playful blend of nostalgia and whimsy. The series celebrates imagination, performance, and the timeless sense of wonder found in the circus.

These framed moments are playful and whimsical, each animal offering a small glimpse into a world where character and charm feel wonderfully alive. Little windows into a place where happiness is handmade.
